About the origin
InlightDesign was founded by owner Nienke Krikke. Her passion and enthusiasm for the profession have developed over the years, resulting in InlightDesign..
Even before she started primary school, she was already involved in the events industry; her first experience was going on a job with her father and, afterwards, setting all the mixing desks to zero. About 8 years later, she began volunteering with him at the United by Music foundation, where she had her first real encounter with technology, from rolling up all the cables after a production to standing behind the mixing desk herself. During the foundation's 10th anniversary benefit show, she had her first proper exposure to the world of lighting technology.
A few years and many enjoyable performances later, including those with United by Music and Chitlin Crew, she attends a CD presentation by Chitlin Crew at the Gorinchem community centre Podium Gorcum, also known as PoGo. After a pleasant and enthusiastic conversation with the lighting technician at PoGo, she decides she wants to learn more about the profession and becomes a volunteer. For more than a year and a half, she has had the opportunity to light many different types of live bands, from metal and punk bands on Saturday nights to mellow blues bands on Sundays. She has learned a lot in practice, especially in the beginning, under the guidance of a now good friend and often returning colleague.
In 2020, she began her training as a stage and event technician, specialising in lighting and an elective module in stage light design at the Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam. During this time, she also completed an 8-month internship at Theater Zuidplein, where she learned a great deal about moving LED lights and how they can be best used and programmed. She also witnessed a wide variety of theatre companies and often observed the demand for a combination of a lighting designer's insight and the efficiency of a good programmer.
This is one of the goals of InlightDesign, to look at a production with the perspective of a lighting designer and then, as a programmer, to set it up as well and efficiently as possible on the table, ready for your production!
INLIGHTDESIGN was established to work on even more fun and exciting projects.
Started a course in stage and event technology with a specialisation in lighting and stage light design at the Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam in September. Graduated in July 2022.
During the training, I completed an 8-month internship at Theater Zuidplein and gained a lot of experience with moving LED lights.
Midway through the year, I got in touch with Podium Gorcum, where I spent over a year and a half (until its closure) working as a volunteer lighting technician and gained a lot of experience with live music lighting.
From a young age to the present, working as a volunteer at United by Music as a lighting and sound technician.
In every lighting plan, there is a piece of myself, a piece of passion, creativity, and a piece of wonder.
Our vision
InlightDesign enjoys collaborating with all sorts of different people, whether it's with colleagues who are working with technology on the work floor, or developing ideas for projects and lighting plans together with others. Or people who would like to learn something about the profession and want to observe for in real time. InlightDesign likes to share knowledge and, of course, to learn new things as well. Additionally, InlightDesign has a positive view of women in event technology and is happy to support this.
Our approach
Our approach varies for each production because every assignment requires its own method. For example, the process of lighting a theatre performance is different from that of lighting a pop band or music video recordings. This is why we always start with a conversation to see exactly what your production needs. Intake
Based on a conversation and a run-through of the performance, we will see what we can do for your production.
Lighting plan
After that, we will get to work on the lighting plan and the cue list, during which we will involve you in the process so that it will be exactly what you are looking for.
Montage
With your customised lighting plan and cuelist, we will proceed with the assembly and programming of your production.
Production!
Lastly, of course, the final product, ready to go into production!
